The new sports service building is located in a residential setting, close to a major road and transport infrastructure. The programme is clearly organised: the ground floor contains the spaces directly related to sports activity, such as changing rooms, storage areas and technical rooms, while the upper floor accommodates the bar and terrace, protected by a large timber pergola that also provides shade for the stands.
The proposal defines a compact, sheltered and easily legible volume, designed to strengthen the relationship between users, architecture and context. Concrete is used for retaining elements and areas in contact with the ground, while timber shapes the structure, envelope and protected outdoor spaces.
The building is based on a dry, fast, efficient and industrialised construction system, mainly using timber and low-embodied-energy materials. Interior courtyards bring natural light and cross ventilation into the ground floor, improving the environmental quality of the changing rooms. They also allow for water collection and reuse strategies for irrigating the football pitch, reinforcing the sustainable approach of the project.
